Sandy Lucchesi, Chairperson of the Capital Campaign for the Hopkinton Community Endowment and Kelly Grill, president of the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, accept a check for $3,000 from Bob McGuire, president of the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce. The money was raised in the Chamber’s Golf for the Arts Tournament, and will be used to help the HCA reach its goal of building a multi-media arts facility. Hopkinton Farmers' Market

Fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade products and crafts have lined the tables at the Weston Nurseries Farmers Market all summer long. But as the hot weather cools off, so does the farmers market. The last full day of vendors is October 14th. For produce vendor Artie Keown the third, this year has been very successful.

Keown will be selling his produce at Weston Nurseries until the end of November, in part due to the loyalty of his Hopkinton customers.

A Visit to the New Hiller's Cleaners

This past May, the old Hitchings Hardware store on Main Street was demolished. Over the summer, construction crews were hard at work building what is now the new home of Hiller's Cleaners. For owner, George Vrahliotis, the storefront, which opened in September, is truly a dream realized.

The son of a dry cleaner, Vrahliotis, learned the business inside and out from a very young age. This passion led to his company's motto, "a true dry cleaner", something he takes very seriously.

20/20 - The Public Private Partnership for Economic Development

The partnership between the Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Hopkinton, which will allow the Chamber to lead the town’s economic development efforts, is now official. Selectmen voted earlier this month to approve the agreement between the two groups after an update by Chamber Executive Director Tim Kilduff and President Bob McGuire which introduced the goals of the public private partnership dubbed “Hopkinton 20/20”

E.L. Harvey Celebrates 100th Anniversary

E.L. Harvey & Sons, the full service waste hauling, transfer, and scrap recycling operation, based in Westborough Massachusetts, kicked off the celebration of its 100th year in business on Wednesday, September 21st by holding a special event for its commercial customers.

The day was all about customer loyalty and appreciation and giving back to those who have helped the Harveys become leaders in innovative waste management services.

E.L. Harvey is celebrating its 100th anniversary (1911-2011) of serving the people and businesses or New England. To thank the community, the family is inviting the residents of Hopkinton and Westborough to join them for a Community Celebration of their 100th Anniversary on Saturday, September 24 from 10am to 1pm. The celebration will be held rain or shine at the 68 Hopkinton Road, Westborough location and there will be food, beverages, music, raffles and giveaways.

Hopkinton Drug Health Lecture Series Kicks Off on September 13

Back by popular demand, Hopkinton Drug will kick off its lecture series on September 13th. The series, which was started last year, features doctors who will speak about a variety of health topics.

"We had such a great response," said Marketing Manager Michael Macione, "that we decided to do it again this year and we have an exceptional lineup."

Topics to be discussed include bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, autism and genetics and a number of other topics.

Caliper Life Sciences Acquired by PerkinElmer

(NYSE: PKI), a global leader focused on improving the health and safety of people and the environment, today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ: CALP), a Hopkinton, Massachusetts-based leader in imaging and detection solutions for life sciences research, diagnostics and environmental markets, for $10.50 per share, for a total net purchase price of approximately $600 million in cash.

No Support for Expanded Gaming in Hopkinton

The Board of Selectmen held an open forum on Wednesday night to discuss the newly revived bill for expanded gaming at the State House and to gather input from residents how they felt about a possible casino in Milford.

Before the discussion was opened up to community members, Selectman Chair Todd Cestari asked his fellow board members to weigh in briefly. None of the board members supported expanded gaming and all were concerned with the possibility of a casino locating in the neighboring town of Milford.
