Local Businesses Raise Money for the Renovation and Expansion of Hopkinton Library

Hopkinton Public Library Foundation wishes to thank three local businesses – P.Y.LE Sweets, SkyZone Indoor Trampoline Park, and Vintage Books – for their partnerships with the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation to assist in fundraising for the much-needed renovation and expansion of Hopkinton Public Library.

Casino Free Milford Seeks Volunteers for Casino Vote

Casino Free Milford has asked for volunteers from the surrounding communities. If you would like to hold a sign at a street corner in Milford today or tomorrow they would welcome your participation.

Volunteers are welcome at Wendys(corner of Dilla and Cedar) Today from 3:30 - 6:30.

Also on Tuesday anytime(7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) at the polling stations. The polling stations are as follows:

Peer Review for Milford Casino Released by Town Manager's Office

Attached is a short release and the regions traffic peer review of Foxwoods and the Town of Milford's traffic studies. However, our study goes further than the proponent, by using MassDOT data. The Coalition also did an analysis of the stress points from the estimated 7 million annual new trips that are proposed by Foxwoods that will enter and exit onto Interstate 495 on various intersections, including the MassPike, Route 9, I-290, I-95 and a series of local roads North and South of 495. The results are interesting.

Planning Board Comments on Hopkinton Mews

The Planning Board gave its final comments on the proposed Hopkinton Mews development, a development with some affordable housing on the corner of Lumber Street and West Main Street, during its November 4 meeting. All comments made by the town will be gathered by the Board of Selectmen and sent to MassHousing. MassHousing will then make recommendations to the Board of Appeals when an application is filed with the Board.

Public Input Sought for Strategic Planning

The Hopkinton School Committee is beginning the process of developing a new 5-year Strategic Plan to guide the work of the district. The School Committee is seeking input from across the community to use as the foundation for targeted goals and outcomes. To gather information from the community, Dr. MacLeod will facilitate the following series of Focus Groups with staff, students, administrators, parents, community members, and local business owners. A community wide survey will also be conducted during the month of November.

Senate Passes Bill to Regulate Compounding Pharmacies

To ensure patient safety, the Senate on Wednesday passed legislation by a vote of 38-0 to increase regulatory oversight of compounding pharmacies in the Commonwealth through added enforcement powers and the creation of specialty pharmacy licenses. This bill follows a deadly outbreak of fungal meningitis that was traced to a drug compounded by the New England Compounding Center in Framingham.

Planning Board Discusses Hopkinton Mews

Hopkinton Mews, an apartment community with affordable housing proposed for Lumber Street, may soon be moving to Hopkinton. A presentation for the Hopkinton Mews development was made to the Planning Board during their October 21 meeting by developer Robb Hewitt and property owner Paul Mastroianni. The Hopkinton Mews development is the updated apartment portion of the proposed Acres development. The hearing was continued as there are more items to be discussed during the next meeting.

Casino Impacts Learned from Norwich CT

With Milford’s referendum vote on the proposed casino set for November 19, the MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition (MWACC) continues to gather information regarding the potential impacts on surrounding communities. On October 15, 2013, the MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition met with City Officials of the City of Norwich, Connecticut to discuss their experience with Foxwoods Resort and Casino as a neighbor and business partner.

A summary of the lessons learned from the City of Norwich was scheduled for discussion by selectmen at their October 22 meeting.
