Plan to Purchase Land at 203 Pond Street Fails at Special Town Meeting

On Wednesday Night (March 3rd) a special town meeting was held to vote on if the town can purchase a parcel of land, approximately 43 acres for open space preservation at 203 Pond Street. The total cost of the parcel would be $2,000,000. The special town meeting was held to meet the March 14th deadline to purchase the parcel. During the meeting it was calculated that the maximum tax impact for the typical household would be $29.98 per year on a 10 year bond should the town purchase the approximately 43 acres of land.

Historical Lecture: "The Story of Hopkinton: 1600-1776"

Hopkinton's Chuck Joseph will present "The Story of Hopkinton: 1600 - 1776 as part of the 300th Anniversary historical lectures series on Wednesday, March 25 at 7PM at the Hopkinton Public Library.

The event is sponsored by the Hopkinton 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee, the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library and the Hopkinton Center for the Arts.

Light refreshments will be served.

HHS Athletics Adopts New Registration Program

This spring we are introducing our new athletic registration program FamilyID. Parents and students will register for all sports using Family ID. Please visit the Athletic Department webpage on the Hopkinton Public School website. Here you will find the link to sign up for Family ID and register your child. Please register by March 13th

Please note a hard copy of your child’s current physical (within 13 months) must be on file in the Athletic Trainers Office not with the nurse.

80 Years of Service

Jean Scarlata, who retired this past fall, was on hand as the Selectman honored, Louie Mongiat, who retired after 46 years of service to the town. Louie started with the Highway Department in 1968. He moved over to the water department and also was on call for emergencies for the sewer department. Louie also worked many years as an on call Fire Fighter. He truly embodied the spirit of helping out any and all departments and any citizen he encountered. He was a member of the Marathon Committee and was a prominent figure involved in the painting of the starting line each year.

Point of Order Returns LIVE Tomorrow, 2/27 at 12:30 p.m.

Tomorrow, February 27th, at 12:30 p.m., town manager Norman Khumalo and Operations Assistant to the Town Manager Jamie Hellen will appear with town moderator Bruce Karlin on Point of Order. This episode will be a follow-up on the 203 Pond St issue, and provide voters with valuable information ahead of the March 3rd town meeting and March 10th.
