Town of Hopkinton Shares Update on Response to Water Discoloration

By contributor,

Town Manager Norman Khumalo, Department of Public Works Director Kerry Reed, and Water & Sewer Director Eric Carty wish to update the community about ongoing efforts to address reports of discolored water.

The Town believes the discoloration is being caused by higher-than-expected demand and inconsistent water flow, which can stir up naturally occurring sediment such as iron and manganese. Though discolored, the water is safe to drink.

Town crews have been working around the clock to flush fire hydrants and examine pump stations to minimize these issues.

Water Discoloration 9-29-2023

By contributor,

Please be advised that the department will be turning off the Alprilla Farm wells until further notice barring any emergencies or dramatic increase in demand. This should help relieve the discoloration in the area. It may take a few days for the remainder of the discoloration to fully dissipate as it moves back and forth through the system.
