BOSTON, MA – Representative Carolyn Dykema issued the following statement today:
As many residents know, this past Saturday, a school bus driver was arrested in Hopkinton for driving a bus full of our students while under the influence. Many questions are being asked, and appropriately so, about how someone with a history of prior OUI offenses could be allowed to transport students. I have been in contact with the Hopkinton Superintendent Dr. Cathy MacLeod and have reached out to the Department of Transportation to determine the appropriate next steps. I am prepared to file whatever legislation is necessary and take whatever action is required to ensure that this never happens again. The safety of our children is paramount.
I will notify the public as more information becomes available. Please feel free to contact my office at 617-722-2210 with any questions or concerns.
