Hopkinton High School’s Alpine Ski Team is proud to announce that it is sending six of its athletes to the 2020 MIAA Alpine Ski State Championship, which will be held at Berkshire East Mountain on March 4th, 2020. At the state championship, these athletes have the opportunity to compete against the top high school racers from across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

The team competes in the Central Mass Conference Ski League (CMCSL) which consists of over 250 athletes from 11 high schools. Athletes are invited to the state championship based on individual skier’s results, which lead to a rank in the CMCSL. The MIAA selection criteria for the state championship is highly competitive, and the athletes selected from Hopkinton are among only the top 22 boys and 18 girls from the CMCSL who qualified to participate in this exciting event.

For the girls, Junior captain Cate Barry finished in third place in the CMCSL. This is the third year she has qualified for the state championship.

Senior captain Max Rodgers led the boys’ team, topping the CMCSL in first place.  He will make his third trip to the championship. Max’s twin brother Jack finished in second place and will make his second trip to the championship.  Junior Jackson Schlussel finished in fifth place and also returns to the state championship for the third year. Senior Will Hutchinson finished 16th and Junior Cameron Hanna finished 21st place, both are making their first trip to states. This season, the boys team finished in second place overall out of 11 teams.

In its fourth year, the Hopkinton High School Alpine Ski Team fielded its largest roster to date of 25 athletes (17 boys and 8 girls).  The ski team trains and races at Ski Ward in Shrewsbury.  CMSCL holds weekly races, competing in both slalom (SL) and giant slalom (GS) events.

Hopkinton’s Alpine Ski Team is led by Head Coach Nancy Schlussel and Assistant Coach Dan Barry. The athletes wish to thank the coaches, Athletic Director  Rich Cormier, as well as their friends and families for their support. Go Hillers!
