On October 4, 2012 , Marty Lamb, candidate for State Representative in the Eighth Middlesex District and small business owner, toured Diamond Diagnostics of Holliston with owner and Hopkinton resident, Steve Kovacs.
"We are pleased to show Marty our facility. It is clear that he not only cares about restoring the economy, but that Marty has the working knowledge to make a difference for us," said Kovacs. "It is going to take new leadership and experienced business people to make the necessary reforms so business owners like myself have certainty for planning purposes. Until that happens it is difficult to really grow our business."
"I am not going to focus on one sector. I am going to fight for all the small business owners who create jobs," said Lamb. "As someone who has experienced difficulties, I have a better understanding of the important issues that need to be tackled and how to address them. Unfortunately, the incumbent has a failing record on small business issues. The National Federation of Independent Business gave her a failing grade for her voting record."
"Moreover, helping the business community is not about voting for a bill and patting oneself on the back. It is about finding new solutions and fighting for those solutions legislatively. You have to be a proactive leader not just attends meetings to be seen," added Lamb.
Diamond Diagnostics was founded in 1996. They manufacture and refurbish clinical diagnostic instrumentation. They employ 75 in the area and hope, with new leadership in the House, they can grow further.
Not only is Lamb a small business owner, but last year he was the Vice President of New Jobs for Massachusetts. He helped push for reforms at the State House. Lamb spoke at the Small Business Caucus about reforms that could immediately help grow jobs in the Commonwealth. As someone professing to be a small business advocate, Dykema did not join the bipartisan small business caucus.
Lamb has released 6 key reforms that he will pursue as our next State Representative. They are as follows:
- Amend the laws governing freelancers and independent contractors so we can encourage entrepreneurship through self-employment
- Require the state to do a cost/benefit analysis of regulations every 5 years
- Pass a 3 year moratorium on new health care mandates
- End the end inventory tax
- Allow more options in health care insurance products
- Allow businesses to appeal labor judgments against
Mr. Lamb, a Massachusetts native, graduated from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University in 1985 and received his Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College in 1982. He has an extensive background in real estate law, formerly with Adelson, Golden & Loria, P.C., Edward A. Sokoloff & Associates and Lamb and Browne, P.C., is currently with Lamb and Associates, P.C. He is a member of the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts. An active participant in community affairs, Mr. Lamb sits on the Board of Directors of New England Region of United Synagogue and is a past president of Temple Beth Torah in Holliston. He has also served on the Holliston Elementary School Council and the Campaign for Holliston Schools. He resides in Holliston with Peri, his wife of 22 years and his two daughters Elissa and Simma.
