It's time to Wake up and Smell the Poetry once again for a new season of poetry, original songs and more at the warm and welcoming studios at HCAM-TV in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. In fact, this is the 13th season of this free program offering of performance and literary arts for community which takes place on the third Saturday morning of each month from October-April.

On board for the first program of the new season is Boston-area poet Deana Tavares, a rising debutante poet, visual artist and activist, will be reading her poetry while presenting images of her visual art on screen. Tavares, who serves on various community-activist art events including the School Street Sessions Poetry Advisory Committee of Boston, is oriented towards creating a voice for peace, hope and understanding through her art and poetry. Louis Apollon, a rising star New York singer-songwriter, will follow and share a few selections of his original songs from his first recently released CD Free to Be. Louis, heavily influenced by Jazz, Pop, World Music and Acoustic Styles, states that he "is always looking to use his work to positively impact the world and its listeners."

In this intimate studio setting, the guest features are also asked to get personal in their performance and sit down with the audience to share a few insights and stories about their own creative process. This year, guest features will also be asked to give the audience a writing prompt for those who appreciate a creative assignment as part of the performance.

After the two features perform for the first hour of the program, an open mic takes place with a line-up of 15 contributions of a mix of poetry, story and song. Contributors come from near and far. They usually sign up in advance to perform and consist of both seasoned and beginner writers and performers. Some of the open mic contributions are later included along with feature performances on the TV version of the event.
