Video: Hillers Baseball and Softball Get Playoff Wins 6/7/2017

The Hopkinton Hillers baseball team grabbed the 9th seed in the South Division 2 bracket, they upset 8th seeded Plymouth North in the 1st round, in the second round, they got a home game against 17th seeded Falmouth who upset 1st seeded Middleboro 6-3 in 8 innings.

Rain delayed this game for a couple days but with great field prep by the grounds crew we were ready for baseball. Bottom of the 3rd inning, Hillers came to bat trailing 1-0 and rallied. Hopkinton plated 5 runs in the inning and never looked back as they grabbed the 5-2 victory. Chris Burdick threw another gem and the Hillers improved to 14 and 8 and advanced to sectional semi-finals on Thursday June 8th 4pm at Rockland HS in which they will take on 5th seeded 16-6 Greater New Bedford.

Down the Hill from the Baseball team the 3rd seeded Hillers Softball team was playing in the South Division 1 quarterfinals against 11th seeded Somerset Berkley. This game was a straight up pitchers dual between Abigail Cadorette and Heather Holly.

Bottom of the 10th, the game was still scoreless, Emma Murphy starts the inning off with a single, after a sacrifice and a groundout, Emma Murphy moves up to 3rd. With 2 outs in the inning, Lilly Morningstar comes to the plate and comes through in the clutch driving in the winning run with a pop to left field to score Murphy. It was the only run of the nearly 2 hour, 10 inning game. Hillers advance to the sectional semi-finals where they will meet up with the 2nd seeded Milford Scarlet Hawks who are 21 and 1 on the season. They will meet up at Taunton HS Thursday June 8th at 5pm.
