Since the beginning of Winter Storm Quinn on Thursday March 8th, Hopkinton has received reports of
over 175 downed trees, limbs, or wires. Storm Quinn resulted in hurricane level damage and recovery
operations for Hopkinton, with unprecedented storm damage to both public & private property. The
first response to these issues from DPW/Eversource was to cut and clear these trees and branches
that were a potential hazard or blockage for an emergency vehicle’s ability to respond to incidents.

Those cut and clear operations created some of the current debris stacked on the side of roadways.
Hopkinton has had crews out all weekend and today mitigating the issue of roadside debris as this
debris creates its own unique set of safety issues. There is the potential for vehicle and plow damage,
as well as unsafe pedestrian access.

We ask that you do not place brush or debris from private property at the edge of the roadway as this
creates additional potentially unsafe hazards given the new storm expected to begin in the early
morning hours of Tuesday March 13th.

We do not currently have the capacity to offer any additional services in brush and debris removal;
however, we are evaluating our current programs to deal with this extraordinary and unprecedented
impact.

Hopkinton is under a new Winter Storm Warning beginning Monday 3/12 at 11pm until Tuesday 3/13
8pm. We are expecting heavy snow with accumulations upwards of 15-18 inches and near blizzard
conditions.
