A "New" Hopkinton Jewelers

By Stephanie Kane, News Producer

On May 6th, Hopkinton resident Karen Stephenson celebrated the grand opening of Hopkinton Jewelers. The store, which Stephenson co-owns with her husband Michael, was previously owned by Renee Marino. The Stephensons felt that it was important to preserve some important aspects of the business that Marino established and therefore kept the name Hopkinton Jewelers.

"I kept the name the same," said Stephenson. "The former owner had a business here for fifteen years and it was Hopkinton Jewelers."

When asked why she didn't change the name, Stephenson said that it represents the town that she lives in and the town that she has her store in.

"It was so well established," said Stephenson. "My hope is that the people that went to Renee will continue to come to me."

Although this is Karen's first venture into the world of jewelry, the former corporate saleswoman has always dreamed of owning her own business. And she's excited that she is able to incorporate her love of fashion into it.

"I love jewelry and I love fashion," said Stephenson. "I think that the opportunity presented itself at the right time for me."

Stephenson is very proud that her store contains both one-of-a-kind pieces, as well as many classic wardrobe staples. Her plan, which she has already started, is to bring in artisan jewelry; pieces that are different that you just can't get anywhere. She also plans to carry more traditional items such as charms, signet rings and other similar items.

"I'm living my dream, " said Stephenson. "My hope is that people from Hopkinton and from the surrounding towns will stop in if they are looking for jewelry."
