Watch Now: Hopkinton School Committee Implements Temporary Mask-Optional Policy in Schools

The Hopkinton School committee voted 3 to 2 in favor of a mask-optional policy in schools. The policy will be on a trial basis from November 1st until November 19th. The 19 day trial period will be for gathering data such as breakthrough cases and tracking greater absenteeism because of COVID-19 like symptoms per School Superintendent, Dr. Carol Cavanaugh's recommendation.

HPS Press Release: Hopkinton School Committee Votes to Lift Mask Mandate for Trial Period

On Thursday evening, October 21, 2021, the Hopkinton School Committee voted 3-2 to lift the mask mandate for a three week trial period at Hopkinton High School. Hopkinton High School received the “off-ramping” waiver from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) on October 7, 2021.

The three-week lifting of the mask mandate begins on Monday, November 1, 2021 and ends on Friday, November 19, 2021. Students will resume wearing masks on Monday, November 22, 2021, prior to the Thanksgiving holiday.

On September 27, 2021, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) announced that "as of October 15, 2021, if a school demonstrates a vaccination rate of 80 percent or more of all students and staff in the school through an attestation form submitted to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), then vaccinated individuals in that school would no longer be subject to the mask requirement.”

Hopkinton submitted the Attestation form on Friday, October 1, 2021. In response, Hopkinton High School has received the following approval from DESE:

Race spotwatch was a program established in 1985 by Olympic Coach and running expert, Frank Tressler and Boston Marathon Director & Community relations expert, Tim Kilduff.

Race stopwatch provides the most accurate information of a race or marathon to the producers, on air personalities and the behind the scenes staff. The organization was at Hopkinton High School this past monday to train the Hillers cross country to become Marathon spotters for the WBZ Boston Marathon coverage.

Hopkinton Music Association Seeks New Board Members

The Hopkinton Music Association (HMA) is actively seeking new Board Members for the 2021-2022 school year. This organization is a volunteer organization whose mission is to promote, support, and advocate for exceptional music education for all students in the Hopkinton Public Schools. We achieve this with the generous support of business, individuals, and the families of music students...past, present, and future.

The Board meets monthly. Members assist at concerts, fit concert attire for students, organize/run the MICCA Festival and Pops Concert weekend Spring events.
