Update from Hopkinton's Solar Coach

Hi everyone. I thought it was time to send out a quick status update. As of today, SolarFlair has 93kW of commitments. Currently at $3.59, tier 3 is an excellent price and tier 4 and 5 will be icing on the cake. For comparison, some of the other Solarize towns with different installers have tier 1 pricing starting at $4.20 vs. our $3.79.

Host Family for International Student Needed

Program: Hopkinton School district is currently looking for a host family to host a 12th grade student from China. He is a senior who enjoys basketball and looks forward to living with a Hopkinton family so he can learn more about American culture. Our current host families have found their lives are being enriched in enormous and sometimes surprising ways.

Middle School Wins Season Openers

On Monday, the Middle School Girls’ Soccer team opened their season with a win against Ashland 1-0. Though a very competitive game, the Hiller girls pulled off the win by scoring in the last 5 minutes of the game. The goal came from Sarah Glidden who had a beautiful shot into the upper right corner of the net after receiving an incredibly long throw-in from Caitlyn Ryan. The entire team should be commended on working together to achieve this win.

Rodney F. Oehley, 60

Rodney F. Oehley, 60, died suddenly Sunday September 16, 2012 at Milford Hospital. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late Donald V. Oehley and Kathaleen (Burr) Oehley of Hopkinton. He was the fiancé of Deborah Watson of Woonsocket.

He was a 1970 graduate of Hopkinton High School and was employed by Paramont Industries. He was an umpire in the National Umpires Association of Babe Ruth Leagues. His favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren in sports, gymnastics and dance.

Hopkinton Women's Club Hosts Library Update on September 24

The Hopkinton Women's Club kicks off the fall season with a meeting and program on September 24 at the Faith Community Church, 146 East Main Street. Coffee and pastries will be served starting at 9:30AM, followed by a general meeting at 10:00AM. Beginning at 11:00AM, the program, "The Future of the Hopkinton Public Library", presented by Marie Eldridge, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Rownak Hussain, Lirbrary Director, will begin.

Marty Lamb at Hopkinton's Polyarts Festival

Before door knocking this weekend, Candidate for State Representative, Marty Lamb was meeting and greeting voters Saturday morning at the Hopkinton PolyArts Festival, accompanied by Hopkinton Republican Town Committee (RTC) Chair Ken Weismantel and other RTC members. According to his campaign manager Desiree Awiszio, Marty had a wonderful time at the event speaking with voters.

"He really enjoyed chatting with the local artists and seeing all the talents they bring to the community," said Awiszio. "The apple crisp made by the Friends of the Library was terrific!"

Massachusetts Department of Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach Resigns

“It is with deep regret and with a sense of responsibility to uphold the high ideals Governor Patrick demands that I announce today my resignation as Commissioner of the Department of Public Health.

“It is clear that there was insufficient quality monitoring, reporting and investigating on the part of supervisors and managers surrounding the former Department of Public Health drug lab in Jamaica Plain – and ultimately, as Commissioner, the buck stops with me.

Bielat in Hopkinton - Addresses Republican Town Committee and Visits Polyarts

Sean Bielat started off his Saturday with stops at the Hopkinton Polyarts Festival and spoke at the Hopkinton Republican Town Committee (RTC). The businessman and candidate for Congress was also accompanied by Marty Lamb who is running for state representative.

"Hopkinton always provides great support and enthusiasm," said Sean Bielat. "I'm thankful for the support that the Hopkinton RTC has given the campaign."

Live Poetry At HCAM On Saturday

We will be welcoming poet Michael R. Brown coming from far-off Robbinston of northern Maine. Michael was the founding Boston slam master and now hosts a monthly reading and is co-publisher of Off the Coast poetry journal with partner and poet, Valerie Lawson). Still an activist of community, Michael works in theater and is president of the board and works at the local theater company known as Stage East. He is also presently working on a book about American education.
