The Hopkinton Select Board narrowed down the Fire Chief search to 2 final candidates; John W. Ignatowitz and Gary Daugherty Jr.
John W. Ignatowitz is currently the Acting Chief in Pelham, NH while Gary Daugherty Jr. took over as Interim Chief in Hopkinton when previous HFD Chief, William Miller left for Bellingham on June 11th.
After conducting the public interviews with the two candidates followed up with much deliberation, the outlying factor appeared to be Daugherty's previous experience with the HFD and familiarity with the Chief position from his interim role.
At their January 2nd meeting, the Select Board unanimously approved to offer the Fire Chief position to Gary Daugherty Jr. "subject to successful contract negotiations, and to delegate the contract negotiations to the Town Manager and Town Counsel". Gary's Father, Gary Daugherty Sr. also served as Hopkinton Fire Chief from 1997 until 2009.
