Video: Board of Health Ballot Recount

After a recount was done for the Board of Health open seat, the results were the same as the original. Jennifer Flanagan edged Dr. Phillip Cohen by 9 votes. 804-795. The recount was the first major task for newly elected Town Clerk, Connor Degan who stated that on the petition requesting the recount there was an issue with the absentee ballots "on the petition it also included that there was a breach in the chain of command of absentees".

At this years Town Election, 1 spot was open for Board of Health and Jennifer Flanagan who was appointed by the Democratic Caucus beat out candidate seeking reelection, Dr. Phillip Cohen by 9 votes, 804-795. The Republican Committee helped Dr. Phillip Cohen gather the at-least 40 signatures necessary (10 from each precinct) for a recount after ballots were mishandled at one of the precincts.

The votes will be recounted at Hopkinton Town Hall Friday, June 3rd at 9am in the Board of Selectmen meeting room and is open to the public.

On May 17, 2016, the Board of Selectmen publicly acknowledged the resignation of a member of the
Hopkinton Council on Aging and are currently seeking candidates for this position.

The Board of Selectmen appoints the members of this seven member board whose mission it is to
promote the well-being and enhance the quality of life for adults 60 years old and older in Hopkinton,
and coordinating and carrying out programs designed to meet the problems of the elderly in
cooperation with programs of the Massachusetts Office of Elder Affairs.

The Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2016 State of the Town Address in the HCAM studios. Speakers included: Hopkinton Chamber President, Scott Richardson, Selectmen Vice-Chair, John Coutinho, Town Manager, Norman Khumalo and Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Cathy MacLeod and local business owner, Harold Nahigian.
