Golden Pond Assisted Living, an independent lifestyle and assisted living community, has named Katy Tavares as its new executive director.

Tavares brings more than 18 years of experience to her post where she oversees the day-to-day operations of the community. Golden Pond is located at 50 West Main Street in Hopkinton.

There is a lot of excitement in the air about how the new Superintendent of Hopkinton Schools, Dr. Cathy MacLeod, is poised to lead the school district through myriad challenges.

The Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce will host a Meet and Greet the New Superintendent event on Tuesday, September 17th at the Faith Community Church. Doors will open at 7:30 am with the program scheduled to begin at 8:00.

In observance of National Assisted Living Week®, September 8 to 14, Golden Pond Assisted Living will sponsor a series of events developed as a special opportunity to bring together residents, families, employees, volunteers and the surrounding community to celebrate “Homemade Happiness.”

The “Homemade Happiness” theme acknowledges the contributions of staff, residents, and families in making the assisted living community a home for residents.

Weston Nurseries has hired Jim Connolly to manage their Chelmsford, Massachusetts Garden Center. Peter Mezitt, president of Weston Nurseries says “We are thrilled to welcome Jim to our company. He is a well-known leader in our area who brings a tremendous amount of knowledge pertaining to buying and selling green goods and hard goods to both homeowners and landscape companies. I know he is looking forward to managing this location and working with our team to identify opportunities for growth in both locations."

The MetroWest Anti-Casino Coalition (MWAAC) voted unanimously on August 29 to retain Green International Affiliates, Inc. (Green) to provide traffic impact peer review services for the proposed Foxwoods MA casino development in Milford, MA.

“It is important for the residents of Milford to hear from consultants not paid for by the developer. This study will clarify and confirm the Casino project’s traffic impact and data for the residents’ consideration,” said MWACC Chairman Brian Herr.

Selectmen at their August 13th meeting voted unanimously to send a letter to the state’s Economic Assistance Coordinating Council (EACC) to begin the process of decertifying the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) agreement between Hopkinton and Lonza Biologics, located at 97 South Street.

On Wednesday and Thursday, August 21st and 22nd, Main Street and Route 85 traffic will be detoured. Detours routes will be posted. The work hours will be from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Please plan your commute accordingly.
