Hopkinton School Committee Strategic Plan Public Forum

The Hopkinton School Committee in conjunction with the Superintendent, Steering Committee and Administrative Team has developed a new 5-year Strategic Plan to guide the work of the district. We are thankful for all of the public input gathered through public forums and survey data and are ready to share the results. The following dates have been selected to provide opportunity for public comment prior to the School Committee’s vote to accept the plan. We encourage you to attend so that your voice can be heard.

Spilka Office Hours on May 16

State Sen. Karen Spilka or members of her staff will be available for district office hours on Friday, May 16, in Hopkinton, Holliston and Ashland.

Constituents are invited to share their concerns, questions and policy priorities and hear updates on the latest news and events from the State House and in the district.

8 – 9 a.m. The Golden Spoon, 85 W. Main St., Hopkinton.
9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Coffee Haven, 76 Railroad St., Holliston.
11 a.m. – noon. Sunnyside Café, 24 Front St., Ashland.

Article 7: Fiscal 2015 Operating Budget Passes

Article 7 at the Annual Town meeting asked; "To hear and act on reports and recommendations of the Appropriation Committee and to see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate, transfer from available funds, borrow or otherwise provide, a sum or sums of money for the operation and maintenance of town departments for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2014, and that such sums be expected for such purposes under the direction of the respective Town Officers, Boards and Committees."

Parade and Memorial Day Events in Hopkinton: Honor Veterans with Ceremonies, Parade and Taps

On Monday, May 26, 2014, Hopkinton will hold its annual Memorial Day commemorative events. Events will include prayers, readings, playing of “Taps”, gun salutes, a parade and will culminate with the raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem at the Town Common.

Events will begin at the Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville at 9:45 a.m. At 10:30, veteran memorial locations on Mayhew Street will each be honored. The parade to the Town Common Gazebo will start at 11:15 and end at noon with the traditional raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.

Helping Teens With Homework Doesn’t Mean Doing the Work

Parents have always known it’s important to help teens with homework. But today, some parents are actually doing the homework.
Clearly, that’s going too far. But what can a parent do?

Teachers say they need to see the teen’s work, not the parent’s. Only by looking at homework can a teacher judge what a teen still doesn’t understand. Teachers often use what they learn from homework mistakes to plan future lessons.

Friends Pledge $15,000 for the Renovation and Expansion of Hopkinton Public Library

Fundraising for the Library received yet another exciting boost from the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library prior to the Library funding vote at the May 5 Town Meeting and the May 19 Town Election. The Friends have pledged to give $15,000 over the next three years to renovate and expand the Library, in addition to their $5,000 gift and naming of the Staff Room. With this generous pledge, the Friends have donated $20,000 to the renovation and expansion project.
