Today, State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg announced that Massachusetts sold two series of General Obligation Bonds for an aggregate issuance par amount of $1.88 billion. The first series was a new money issuance, with proceeds to be used to fund projects in the Capital Investment Plan. The second series was a refunding of existing bonds for savings. This was the first financing of 2024 for the Commonwealth and the first significant high-grade deal of the year in the municipal bond market.

Hopkinton Town Hall and municipal offices will be closed on Monday January 15, 2024 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The Hopkinton Public Library will be closed Saturday, January 13 through Monday, January 15.

There will be no trash pickup service on Monday January 15th, and trash pickup will be delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

What happened?
Our water system received notification of PFAS6 results showing that our system violated the 20 ng/L PFAS6 Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) drinking water standard during October through December 2023 compliance period with a quarterly average of 24 ng/L at the Fruit St. Pump Station. The quarterly average of PFAS6 has ranged between 20 to 35 ng/L since Quarter 3, 2021 to date and our system will continue to notify consumers every 3 months with updated information as required. This does not apply to residents on private wells.

The Hopkinton Select Board narrowed down the Fire Chief search to 2 final candidates; John W. Ignatowitz and Gary Daugherty Jr.

John W. Ignatowitz is currently the Acting Chief in Pelham, NH while Gary Daugherty Jr. took over as Interim Chief in Hopkinton when previous HFD Chief, William Miller left for Bellingham on June 11th.

After conducting the public interviews with the two candidates followed up with much deliberation, the outlying factor appeared to be Daugherty's previous experience with the HFD and familiarity with the Chief position from his interim role.

Fire Chief Gary Daugherty and Police Chief Joseph Bennett wish to provide winter weather safety precautions to community members as some of the first snow accumulation of the season is expected this weekend.

Stay Informed:
While snow totals may continue to change, much of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut can expect 6-12 inches with lower totals for cities and towns closer to the coast.

Police Chief Joseph Bennett and Fire Chief Gary Daugherty report that the Hopkinton Police and Fire Departments responded Thursday afternoon when an allegedly drunken driver struck two homes with a van.
